Make-A-Wish UK

A platform that turned interest into action, and action into real support.

The challenge

Make-A-Wish UK grants life-changing wishes to children with critical illnesses - work that depends on a steady flow of income, volunteers, and community support to keep going.

The charity's website is the digital shop window for everything Make-A-Wish UK does - showcasing impact, attracting supporters, and driving the engagement the charity needs to grow. But with ambitious plans ahead, the existing site didn't have the stable, scalable foundation to support that growth, and disconnected systems behind the scenes meant time going into manual admin that should have gone into the charity's actual work.

Before

A child and parent ride through the snow in a sleigh, pulled by reindeer. The homepage invites people to help seriously ill children like Finn create lasting memories.
A child in costume smiles joyfully as they make their wish come true, surrounded by family and charity supporters. The headline text says “Every child deserves to wish.”

The solution

The new website carries a fresh, modern design that reflects the warmth and hope at the heart of Make-A-Wish UK's work, built on a structure rooted in real audience research, guiding visitors effortlessly toward the action that matters most to them - whether that's donating, volunteering, or learning more about the charity.

Storytelling sits at the centre of the new platform. Each wish story page carries a donation block that stays visible as visitors read, a real-time tracker showing how close that specific wish is to being funded, and suggested giving amounts that remove friction from the decision to give. A wish list breakdown lets supporters fund the specific parts of a child's wish that mean the most to them, turning a general appeal into something personal and tangible.

Behind the scenes, direct integrations connected the platform to the systems Make-A-Wish UK already relies on, cutting the manual processing that used to eat into the team's time.

The impact

In its first month, 16% of everyone who visited the new site started the donation journey - a strong signal that the storytelling and giving features aren't just engaging, they're converting interest into action, at real scale: 5,287 people taking that first step in a single month.

That action translated into real support. Donations rose 122% - more than double what the charity was seeing before, at a moment when Make-A-Wish UK needed that growth most to fund the wishes still waiting to be granted.

Behind the scenes, the team is also spending less time on manual admin and more time on the work that matters, thanks to a platform finally built to support the charity's ambitions rather than hold them back.

Our site build delivered some real benefits to us including better payment and donor journeys and some behind the scenes direct integrations which save us considerable processing time. Giant delivered what we asked for on time and to budget and we're looking forward to continuing our journey with them.
